About Shell, Wyoming
Approximately 5 miles from Big Horn National Forest on US Highway 14, Shell is located on a popular route from the Black Hills, South Dakota / Mount Rushmore and Yellowstone National Park. Shell has a population of 83 people and is 15 minutes drive to Greybull (population 1,847). Cody, Wyoming is a hour drive (population 9,800) and is a very popular tourist destination as the “east gate” to Yellowstone National Park. Cody is where you will find the closest airport, Walmart, Walgreens, etc.
The nearby Big Horn Mountains feature Shell Falls, Shell Canyon, Cloud Peak Wilderness Area, the Medicine Wheel, Big Horn Scenic Byway, Antelope Butte Mountain Recreation Area. There is abundant hiking, fishing and ATV trails.
Shell Campground and Old Shell Store are owned by Kevin and Emily Clark. We have great relationships with our previous Workamper teams, some of who have permanently relocated to Shell!
About Shell Campground
Shell Campground has 7 cabins, 13 RV sites, 4 “glamping” tents and manages vacation homes in the immediate area. We are a popular spot for overnight guests going to/from Yellowstone National Park or multiple night guests exploring the Big Horn Mountains.
About Shell Store
The Old Shell Store is a historic building constructed in 1897. After sitting vacant for nearly 15 years, Kevin and Emily re-opened this landmark building in May 2020. It includes a cafe, bakery and convenience store. The pastries and burgers are the best in the area and customers frequently drive from more than an hour away. It also features one of the most unique beer selections in the area. The store is a community hub and frequently hosts community events/meetings, weddings, fundraisers and more.
Workamper: Maintenance
Shell Campground & Cabins seeks a workamper to performance maintenance for the 2021 summer season from May 1 – September 30, 2021. Couples or singles are welcome to apply. Workampers should enjoy working with their team members, take initiative for problem solving and completing tasks independently and enjoy interacting with guests.
Our ideal Workamper enjoys the outdoors and will maximize the recreation opportunities available in the area.
Responsibilities
- Responsibilities include both Shell Campground & Old Shell Store
- Responsible for ongoing yard maintenance at (mowing, trimming, fertilizer/pesticides, etc)
- Water grass and flowers
- Regular building maintenance (sweeping/power washing, painting/staining, porch areas, small repairs, lightbulbs, flush water heaters, etc.)
- Empty the outdoor trash cans
- Ensure the grill is clean and full of propane
- Identify items to be improved/replaced
- Bag ice to prepare for sale
- Special projects (ex: replacing posts, gravel drag, construct flower beds, etc.)
- Fill propane bottles
Hours
20-25 hours per week.
Compensation
- Full hook-up RV sites with water, sewer, 30-amp electric, internet and laundry.

Workamper: Housekeeping
Shell Campground seeks a workamper/employee to help with housekeeping from May 1 to September 30. Responsibilities include cleaning of cabins and glamping tents plus laundry.
In addition to a love for cooking and baking, our ideal Workamper enjoys the outdoors and will maximize the recreation opportunities available in the area.
Hours
20 hours per week as Workamper. Additional hours as paid hourly employee. Pay commensurate with experience.
Compensation
- Full hook-up RV sites with water, sewer, 30-amp electric and internet for first 20 hours.
- More than 20 hours will be paid per hour. Pay is commensurate with experience.
